Summer Seasonal Dragons were released on September 14, 2008. They were the first form of Seasonal Dragon to be released.
Like other Seasonal Dragons, the availability of this form is dependent on the seasons in Valkemare, with Summer Seasonals only produced between the June solstice and the September equinox. Breeding a Summer Seasonal Dragon during any other season will produce the variant aligned with that season.
A: The seasonal dragon eggs always switch on the solstices and equinoxes of a given season. Since this varies from year to year, it is recommended that you look up a calendar such as this one to figure out when a specific season begins in the northern hemisphere.
Official descriptions[]
Egg[]
The markings on this egg match the weather outside.
Hatchling[]
Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts summer weather.
Mature hatchling[]
Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It perfectly depicts summer weather.
And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Adult[]
Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Encyclopedia entry[]
Appearance/Basic Anatomy
- Summer Seasonals are sturdy, average-sized dragons with fine green scales, pale green head crests, and warm gold underwings and tail frills. They have an orange-gold orb in the center of their crest that radiates warmth.
- Their scales, some of which look like crystallized leaves, are reflective and warm to the touch.
- A Summer’s broad wings are well-suited for catching warm thermals for soaring.
- Bright gold head crests are hard and bony, protecting the dragon’s face. The delicate gold frill that runs along the back of their necks is more fragile.
- While male Summers have two sets of prongs extending from their head crest, females have a single, larger set.
- These dragons have large eyes in varying shades of bright blue and green, rarely yellow, with round pupils.
Hatchling Behavior
- Summer hatchlings greatly enjoy sunbathing, and can be spotted on any sunny, open surfaces, particularly large, flat rocks in open spaces.
- Adolescent Summer fledglings can be seen gliding on the wind. They seem to enjoy seeking out warm air currents over particularly sunny areas.
- Newly-hatched Summers can be shy at first, but quickly take delight in playing and seeking out cozy spots to nap.
- As hatchlings, they are drawn to bright, reflective rocks, which they may bring to show their parent or caretaker, or merely gather up with their friends.
- Adolescent Summers are less lazy than young hatchlings, but still quite calm and serene, and they learn to fly early on.
- The amount of sun they absorb as they grow up affects the amount of gold and the vibrance of the coloration of growing Summers, and as adults, one can determine whether they grew up in a sunny area.
Adult Behavior
- Summer Seasonals are most active in summertime, and are rather relaxed dragons.
- Summers live in moderately-sized family groups, ranging from eight to twenty-five adult dragons and their young hatchlings.
- If an area gets too crowded, the family groups will break off and seek out new territory, as they are territorial, but not particularly violent.
- Summers spend a lot of time napping together and grooming each other, and tend to be rather unhappy if entirely alone for extended periods.
- In late fall, individual groups of Summers aggregate into massive herds to find mates and stake out new nesting territory in preparation for the winter.
- When the massive herd disperses, the territories are re-established for the coming year, and young adults form new groups to keep the cycle going.
Habitat
- Summer Seasonals gravitate towards temperate plains as their ideal habitat.
- The bright sunlight overhead during the summer is ideal for the health of these dragons.
- Summers brumate in winter, living off stored fat and becoming largely inactive.
- They tend to nest near woodlands, where they can retreat into the undergrowth at night where they are harder to pick off.
Diet
- Summer Seasonals are largely herbivorous, grazing on grasses and tougher mature vegetation as a favored food source. They also produce a lot of the energy they need by basking in the sunlight.
- They also feed on fruits and will dig up roots and tubers to supplement their diets.
- Summers, like other Seasonals, will opportunistically raid nests of smaller creatures if they happen across them, eating eggs, but do not actively hunt large prey and are unlikely to scavenge from large carcasses.
- Summers are also known to fish in rivers, making them the only Seasonals to regularly consume meat.
Trivia[]
- Before the Dimorphism change on March 26, 2010 both genders of these dragons appeared as the male sprites.
- Under Legacy Breed Sort, Seasonals are ordered chronologically: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.
