Fire Gem Dragons were released on March 19, 2017, alongside Tetra Dragons. They have three color variations that rotate on an hourly schedule. Each hour, a different color is available, whether through the cave or via breeding.

When seen in the Volcano, the egg description reads "This rough egg has shimmering veins of crystal running across its surface." After the egg is stolen, the description will update to include the color of the egg.

Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s always proudly preening its patches of colorful scales.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

Fire Gem Dragons are a colorful, flamboyant breed often found in hot climates, particularly around active volcanoes. Their broad tails store the flames they breathe, which are colored by the heavy amount of minerals in the water they drink. These dragons come in a variety of colors, and will collect shiny trinkets and stones that match their own coloration. Despite their hoarding tendencies, though, Fire Gem dragons are social and will often congregate in groups and show off their collections while fawning over the stones their friends and rivals have gathered, occasionally arranging trades.

Sub-Quote:
Laura-Borealis:
[q]

the blue male's pose, with his paws spread - is he showing off some gems? He so looks like he's saying "Look at my shinies, aren't they amazing!"

[a]
Funny story
I was working on them and got stuck on "what do I do with my hands"

Birdzgoboom jokingly suggested "jazz hands"

It ended up sticking

Behavior:
Oh man, these guys love shiny. They love being shiny and collecting shiny. Being rather prissy they keep their gem like scales immaculately clean, and can often be found polishing their hide.

Very Social critters, they tend to gather frequently for gossip and trade. In their society it is frowned upon to steal from another dragons collection. Doing so could get one banished from the group.

They don't have a set social ladder but often the dragon with the largest horde is considered a leader of sorts. Others will come to them to help settle disputes and such.

It also isnt to unheard of for a few Fire Gems to be found trading with humans.

Creation History:

-Originally "Gem Derguns"
*breifly had a dr thread "Gem derguns"
* Believe it was made in early 2012
*it fetured lots of delightful spelling erros and types. (Note I fail at spelling and make all the typos)
-Original concept had them as
*Emerald
*Sapphire
*Ruby
-All the sprites from the thread got redone, a lot
*except the Red male, He was only updated so a few folks might recall him!
*Green Female wins a being redone 4 times ˙ ͜ʟ˙
* Fun fact, the fire is litteraly the dragons color pallete inverted.

- The very sharp pallete from white - black was chosen on purpose. I wanted these kids to be very shiny, some of the pallete was strait up taken from gem stones.

*Gem dragons have been something I've wanted to do for years, but never finished. Often I would have one or two sprties "done" only to come back later and scrap them. I only got the drive to really finish these off after the christmas event. I was off work on dissability and due to have surgery in early January, due to that I just really wanted to finish this project. Some awesome people helped me do it too! At the time I had 4/6 adult poses"finalized" but was struggling on the other 2.
The awesome JereduLevenin drew me up the Red and Green Female.
Mid-way threw working on these birds and Pie tossed the idea of despis like tails (Good catch people who noticed the similarities!) Birds also helped me position the tail on the Red female, damn I love it.
Then the hatchlings needed to get done. Man, i hate doing hatchlings. To re rescue again JereduLevenin drew me 6 differrent ones! (I was originally going to be lazy and make like maybe 3? but I couldn't let the awesome art go to waste!)
Finally TheCompleteAnimorph helped me out a ton with the S1's and descriptions. I had a few basic ideas like "they are shiny and like shiny" but she really helped me flesh it out and write it in a beautiful way.
(Really writing descriptions are not my thing)
