Golden Wyverns were released on January 23, 2012, alongside the Royal Blue Dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year and also the beginning of the "Year of the Dragon". Before there were any adults, forum users referred to Golden Wyverns as "shimmers"; this nickname has since been discontinued due to causing confusion with Shimmer-scale Dragons.
Golden Wyvern eggs are sometimes confused with those of the gold prize dragons or Gold Dragons. Under the old Breed sort, these dragons sorted as "Gwyvern" on a user's scroll. As of August 14, 2016, they now sort using their Encyclopedia name.

Trivia
- Golden Wyvern hatchlings were the only hatchlings to dress up for the Halloween 2012 Dragon Dress Up event.
- The egg sprite got changed during the release; this could have been because of the similarity between it and the original Gold Dragon egg.

- Golden Wyverns are incredibly proud. They'll do anything to protect their families, though as they are also highly intelligent, many try to avoid confrontation and find diplomatic solutions to problems. However, they aren't above chasing out another dragon who means to be a threat! They are quite skilled in the magic of illusion and appearance, not so much with the elements. They can also change one substance into another, like alchemy.
