Moonstone Dragons were released on July 18, 2011, alongside Sunstone Dragons during the "Desert Sands" release. Along with Sunstones, they are one of the first two dragon species that were released into specific habitats. Moonstone Dragons also share their egg description with the Sunstone Dragons.

Moonstones are notably the second non-holiday dragon species which features feathered wings, the first being White Dragons.

Official descriptions[]

Egg[]

This egg resembles a glowing stone.

Hatchling[]

Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It seems to sleep during the day and, glow when it wakes up at night.

Mature hatchling[]

Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It seems to sleep during the day and, glow when it wakes up at night.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • Females are lighter than males and have an iridescent sheen.
  • Males are almost as dark as night except for their glowing underbellies and tails.
  • The older they are, the larger the orb on their tail.
  • Moonstone Dragons have feathers that coat their thick fleshed dragonwings but they don’t actually have bird wings.
  • Their soft leather skin is coated with a substance that absorbs lunar light.
  • The orb on their tail also absorbs lunar light. It collects so much it can continue to glow even in the day.

Hatchling Behavior

  • Hatchlings glow more dimly than adults due to having less of the lunar absorbing substance.
  • Hatchlings are gentle and avoid rough play.
  • Hatchlings are curious and tend to wander a bit.
  • When nervous or annoyed hatchlings will tend to turn their backs toward the irritation and lift their tails, “mooning” the opponent.
  • If a hatchling wanders off, it’s possible for it to be taken in by Sunstone Dragons and raised as an adopted Sunstone. Contrary to their gentle nature, Moonstones can be taught to be just as fierce.

Adult Behavior

  • Tend to laze around and sleep during the day.
  • Most awake and alert when the moon glows brightest.
  • During the night they dance and eat sweet fruits and night blossoms.
  • Hum tunes in the dark as they fly into the starlit sky.
  • Soft skinned and gentle.
  • Generally avoid all violence.
  • Fond of music, they may congregate near human villages during celebrations.

Habitat

  • Can be found anywhere there is vast open space and plants.
  • In the desert they can eat cactus and the blossoms of nightblooming plants.
  • Though they can live anywhere with enough space they love the bright, open desert areas.
  • Wide open skies of the desert are a favorite habitat for moonstones as it affords the most area for their sky dances.

Diet

  • Moonstones love to eat fruit and blossoms.
  • Will settle for other plants if fruit and blossoms are insuffient.
  • For protein, may eat large bugs.

Trivia[]

  • The original idea for a moon and sun stone-based dragon came from a different user posting the suggestion on the forum. By the time anyone came to work on the idea, the original user had long since left DC, and the topic was split into the two different dragons: Moonstone and Sunstone.[citation needed]
  • Kuraianubis revealed that she had finished the Moonstone dragons nearly a year before they got released into the cave. [1]
