Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It shrieks for food everytime you get close.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Adult[]

Serrati Wyverns are a fierce breed of dragon typically found in volcanic areas or in desert scrubland. With their keen vision, these fearsome predators can pick out well-camoflauged prey from the slightest movement. They are named for the double rows of serrated teeth that line their beaks, which allow these wyverns to maintain an unbreakable grip on prey while they tear into their target with deadly hooked claws. Though these dragons are combative with nearly everything, they are surprisingly well-mannered when raising their offspring in communal nests. Males, however, tend to be chased off as soon as eggs are laid.

Appearance/Basic Anatomy

  • These fierce dragons use their striking colors to blend into the volcanic landscape, usually around rock formations and cliffs.
  • Males have thicker, shaggier manes and beards while females sport more white markings across their body.
  • Though roughly the same size, on average females are larger with longer wing spans.
  • The wickedly hooked talons of their feet are constantly sharpened against stone, sometimes even capable of producing sparks.
  • These wyverns grow more spikes in their manes and tail fluff as they age.

Hatchling Behavior

  • These hatchlings are very demanding and constantly shriek for food. If not well satiated, stronger hatchlings may turn on weaker siblings.
  • The competitive nature of these dragons from a young age make it difficult to raise more than one hatchling at a time.
  • Alarmed cries from a Serrati hatchling can summon its parents or neighboring Serrati adults with astonishing speed.
  • Once fledged, hatchlings are chased from the nest to fend from themselves, though young females are more likely to be accepted as a permanent clan member.
  • Mature hatchlings often challenge each other to skirmishes in order to better their fighting skills.

Adult Behavior

  • Serrati Wyverns are extremely territorial and difficult to reason with, as they are hostile to almost anything not already accepted into the clan.
  • Clans of Serrati Wyverns are predominantly female with only a few select males allowed to remain. Most males are solitary, though sometimes they may pair together for companionship.
  • The keen eyesight of a Serrati is practically unparalleled; even the slightest movement can be noticed by them miles away.
  • Victims of Serrati Wyverns are found eviscerated and left to rot as warnings for others.
  • Though they do not keep mates for more than one season, they tend to form close and lasting bonds between clan members of the same gender and may raise many offspring together.

Habitat

  • These dragons prefer rocky terrain where they can nest on high ledges and outcroppings. They fare best in hot climates.
  • Nests are constructed of dry vegetation and down plucked from a parent’s chest. These nests are only large enough for one dragon to drape its wings around at a time.
  • Females reuse the same nests each breeding cycle unless a better location is found or the nest is destroyed.
  • Serrati Wyverns use sand and dust to bathe. They will attack anyone who approaches the nest if not properly cleaned off.

Diet

  • These dragons feed primarily on organ meat and bones of large prey, while smaller prey such as lagomorphs, pygmies, and birds are swallowed whole.

Trivia[]

  • During the release, an error was encountered where the gendered hatchling sprites were switched; males gendered with the female sprite and females gendered with the male sprite. This error has since been fixed.

Breed replacement[]

Seragamma retired concept

Seragamma Wyvern as seen in the Encyclopedia, prior to replacement.

The Serrati Wyvern replaced the Seragamma Wyvern on May 8, 2021. Citing detestable and discriminatory views and conduct by the original artist, Dragon Cave removed all dragon breeds created by the artist and replaced them with new concepts and art. A total of 10 breeds were replaced in this update. An official statement by site administrator TJ09 can be found on the forums.
